In my essay, which received an Outstanding Achievement Award in the Immerse Education Essay Competition, I examined the ethical and legal consequences of artificial intelligence being used in decision-making processes without people’s knowledge. As AI systems become increasingly invisible in fields such as healthcare, media, advertising and engineering, I focused on a central question: Do people have the right to know whether a decision affecting them was made by a human or by AI? The essay explores transparency, accountability, privacy and human oversight, arguing that the use of AI should be clearly disclosed and its decision-making processes should be understandable. As a result of this work, I was awarded a scholarship to attend an Immerse Education program.
