“This Content May Disturb Adults”

“We Are Not Your Crisis: Rethinking Adolescence in the Digital Age” challenges the adult-centered view that discusses social media mainly through risks, restrictions and bans. It examines social media as a space where young people explore identity, express emotions, build solidarity and participate in public debate, while also addressing genuine risks such as algorithmic pressure, harmful content and the need for digital self-regulation. The essay received the Distinction Award in the 2025 Lumiere Scholars Essay Award.
